5 October 2009 14 Comments

buick-park-avenue-spyThe Chinese version of the Buick Park Avenue is quite a handsome vehicle, and has just recieved more handsome thanks to a small facial upgrade.

The Park Avenue is based off the Australian designed and built Holden Statesman and is actually a CKD model from Australia with the Buick badging bolted on afterwards.

The Park Avenue is part of GM’s Global Rear Wheel Drive platform which shares its platform with several other high profile GM vehicles, notably the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The Chinese version of the Park Avenue comes with the choice of a 2.8 V6 and a flagship 3.6l V6, the updated version see’s the Park Avenue get a new set of headlights, new wheels and other minor modifications.

Prices are expected to stay the same when launched, which ranges from 300,000rmb to 460,890rmb.

460,890rmb

No under-engineered, under-equipped Holden is worth the amount Shanghai GM is asking

Under-engineered? Please explain. Compared to what?

I’ve always liked the Park Avenue, but now I must ask why would one choose it over the new LaCrosse (V6 model)?

I love both of them, there isnt a Buick in the Chinese line up I wouldnt buy, well aside from the current GL8 and the HRV but both of those are going to be changed soon anyway, I think the HRV is actually already out of production anyway.

I myself am really looking forward to the new HRV (rebadged Opel Astra).

Me too. Im afraid Im going up in car sizes, but Id be very interested in a 1.5T Astra if it were priced at the right margin, ala 120k’ish.

I have a feeling it will be in the 130-160k range. Still, it’s substantially less than the old imported Astra.

160k is too much for a toy! Ill wait for the Chery Faira JJ, that convertible QQ concept thing:

320,999rmb for the base 3.0L version, rising to 420,000rmb for the luxury model.

Complete bargain if you ask me. A shame I’m only 25 and not 35, otherwise Id be going down to the Buick dealer for one now.

Ash, at your age you should be drooling over the GTI, not this Buick sedan!

I want the GTI, my wife gave me the green light to buy it and trade in the Livina. :D

Depends on if the Qashqai has anymore ailments, otherwise ill trade that in for a Highlander, all going good Ill trade the surplus to requirements Livina in for a Golf GTI.

I know what it is about the Park Avenue that gets me going: Flared wheel arches in an age where every car is trying to be as aero dynamic as possible to save fuel.
