Call me Magotan CC – Passat CC to see Chinese production
Volkswagen’s Chinese line up is certainly a strange one, with varying generations of cars sold side by side yet they still manage to sell well despite the overlap.
Whilst the Passat B5 (and 5.5) may have died in overseas markets by 2005, sales continued in China with various facial updates for several years, which have culminated in China having both the Passat Mk6 (which is marketed as the Magotan, and built by FAW) and their own totally new Passat which is sold by SAIC-VW. To confuse matters more, the Passat R36 is also sold in China, via the VW import dealership networks alongside the Toureg, Scirocco, and Multivan.
Although details are currently sketchy, VW’s Chinese partner First Automobile Works are expected to put the VW Passat CC into production in China early next year with an announcement being made prior to next years Beijing Auto Show. It is believed that the Passat CC will have its name changed to Magotan CC for the Chinese market and will find its engine being either the locally built 1.8TSI 2.0TSI engine which is shared with the regular Magotan sedan line up.
The Passat CC is currently sold in China for just over 500,000rmb with a 3.6l AWD setup, the future Chinese built one is likely to be FWD and with only the 4 cylinder engines available.

The VW range of cars have always been excellent.
Not only are they very well made but they are excellent for driving.
I don’t think this is going to be called the Magotan CC. Advertising for the car suggests simply Volkswagen CC.
