Great Wall suing Fiat for industrial espionage

Fiat and Greatwall Motors have had various spats over the past few years, mostly relating to the development of Greatwall’s Perry automobile, which Fiat say is a clone of their own Panda. Initially, an Italian judge ruled in Fiats favour and banned Greatwall from selling the car in Europe, later a counter claim from a Chinese court was awarded in Greatwalls favour, the Chinese court declared the Perry was not a Panda clone.

The latest issue between the two auto makers is due to Fiats alleged employment of spies within the Greatwall camp to take pictures of the Perry whilst it was still under production. Greatwall have taken their issue to a second level court in the city of Shi Jia Zhuang.

On September 30th, the Shi Jia Zhuang court issued a noticed to Fiats representative office in Shanghai regarding Greatwalls motion to sue Fiat over the use of spies. Fiat Shanghai refused to comment on the matter, and deemed it a matter for Fiat headquarters in Italy to deal with.

Fiat has nothing to be ashamed about; they have never ever copied anyone and have been more of an innovator, more so than most car companies…has China come up with anything in the car industry worth emulating let along anyone aspiring to copy?

  2. avatar Head Honcho says:

I am sure Fiat was not there to try and copy anything. I am sure they were in there to either prove that Great Wall was copying them or to preempt another copy.

Fiat was obviously trying to collect evidence for its piracy lawsuit against Great Wall.

This is just another in the long lineup of China copying other manufactures designs. Point in case: The recently announced investigation by the French into Chinese bribing Fiat employees and stealing secrets of a Fiat designed electric car. I think this is nothing short of Industrial war. It is happening now.

Why are French launching an investigation into what the Chinese are doing with employees of an Italian car company?
