New VW Gol to be VW’s Sail fighter?

The VW Gol (not to be confused with Golf, note that f.) is VW’s developing market car, and is sold in Latin America and certain Asian markets. The VW Golf was initially built by Shanghai-VW but sales numbers were not terribly good for VW, however with the success of the Chevrolet Sail and Aveo range it seems that VW are preparing the 2010 Gol to knock the wind out of GM’s Sail.

The 2008 VW Gol is already sold in Brazil, but a face lifted version might be sold in China in the next two years according to rumours circulating. The Shanghai-VW Gol is likely to come with a 1.2 and 1.4l engine

Is this not a reskinned and slightly adapted 2008 Seat Ibiza? It looks remarkably same in dimensions and porportions, its rear lights and haunches? The side profile is near identical minus the Ibiza’s flamed design. Makes you wonder if this is a quick rebadge for VW here!

nope, this is not a reskinned Ibiza

This Gol is currently built over an amphibious platform from the previous Gol (that was sold in South America) and the Mark IV Polo (which uses VW’s PQ24 platform).

The 2008 Ibiza is built over the PQ25, which is the same as the current Polo’s.

The Gol is a cheaper car than the Ibiza. It’s made for developing countries.

Gol is a PQ24 and PQ25 anfibious, and not PQ24 and old gol anfibious, like Andy said before.

The engines in Brazil are 1.0 76hp and 1.6 104hp (the same from Ibiza).
