JAC super cute super mini to launch this year

JAC’s first super mini maybe a familiar sight to some CCT regulars, especially around the rear end which does strike a resemblance to the Toyota Aygo which both Geely and BYD took a shine to. The below mini car is named the Yue Yue (悦悦) and will launch towards the end of the year according to the Chinese press:

The Yue Yue really does look like an interesting car both inside and out, on the power front it will be on par with other super cheap minis with a 1.0L and 1.1L power unit delivering power to the front wheels. The 1.0L engine is the one that is shared with the Hafei Lobo and thus is a well tested engine with plenty of spare parts available. The 1.0L will produce 50kw at 6000rpm and will be paired to a 5 speed manual.

The interior looks fairly well constructed, with plenty of round, cute lines, that are likely to find the Yue Yue with plenty of young fans, coincidently, Yue actually means pleasing, which is exactly what many buyers are expected to be when they pick up up this little baby.

Pricing is expected to be on par with the BYD F0 in the low 30,000rmb segment.

“Super Cute”? Reminds me of a bug face with the disproportionate windows etc. Perhaps similar to an intentionally ugly japanese cartoon….

another toyota aygo copy ( aka Geely Panda aka ByD f0 ) :D

No, this is one of the few new Chinese cars which is not a copy of anything. You are right about the Panda and the F0, but this car has its own design. How to spot copies: Check the cutlines of the doors, if they are identical, that is doors are interchangeable, then it certainly is a copy. But not this JAC. I would guess some international talent has had a hand in the design of this.

And editor: The only thing on this car’s back side that reminds me of the Aygo, is the underside of the window. Nothing else. No cutlines, no overall shape, totally different lights.

      Way to go, JAC!

wtf?! The Geely Panda is one of the most original super-minis on the market today.

I think it’s great – and the fact that it offers a AMT in the 1.1l model is fantastic. How many other super-minis offer a AMT? Let’s see……..besides the 0.8l QQ AMT, there are NO other super-minis that have available AMT. I consider super-minis to be a 1.1l engine or less, 1.3l cars are sub-compacts in my opinion, and there are a few choices there for a AMT or auto trans if you want it. Anyway, the JAC is cool and ORIGINAL – it could be a real hit here in China if it’s priced right.

Designed in Turin Italy in the JAC studio by my son.

    More to follow.

    Well done Ian
