Chang’an Suzuki working on 600CC turbo engines
The current sales tax for sub 1.6L cars has spurred on the development of powerful engines such as the VW 1.4TSI engine which gives car owners lower sales tax but all the power and punt of a larger engine. Sub 1.3L cars in China are few and far between, but Chang-an Suzuki are reportedly working on building a new range of 660CC Turbo powered engines which would take advantage of the 1% sales tax on sub 1.0L vehicles.
The upcoming 600CC Turbo engine could be finding its way into the recently launched Suzuki Alto, and the soon to be launched Suzuki WagonR.
Should Chang’an-Suzuki get this baby into production in time, then they may well be able to flood the market with cheap, powerful cars.

Powerful? 660cc even turbo isn’t going to be powerful. Unless the car is a shell and weighs nothing. T-rex or X-box style.
The Japanese version is limited to 64BHP to keep it in the kei car category, unlimited its probably about 80bhp, which would put it on par with most 1.3L engines.
look at mira.
660 cc more than enough for small car
I am still used to US powered cars. A small car that is powerful is 170-over 200 hp.
bloody yanks
The Suzuki Cappuccino is a 660cc and are often tuned to more than 100bhp with a simple turbo upgrade. A 660cc turbo in a Japanese spec Wagon R aka the ‘New’ Wagon R for China will fly!! The current Chinese Wagon R (北斗星)isn’t actually a Kei car (it’s a limited wide version) Stick a 660 turbo in that and you’d be less than impressed.
There should be healthy competition amongst small
car manufacturers for poor people. It should compete
with Tata Nano in price. I am eager to import one
if available in RHD model.
