Beijing pure electric sedan – Fantastic, Amazing and Electric
Pure electric cars have never looked good, remaining in the domain of the odd two door city car like the fake smart cars and Geewhizz electric cars in London, however Beijing Automotive seem to have plans to totally change the face of the electric car with the introduction of the Beijing branded electric sedan that was unveiled to the press today.
The sedan was built by Beijing Automotive’s flagship subsidery ‘Beijing New Energy Automotive’ company, which they claim the sedan can do 0 – 100kph in 15 seconds and will have a top speed of 160kph and also a maximum range of 200km on a single charge.
Beijing Automotive currently have a joint venture with Mercedes Benz, which is probably where Beijing Auto got the styling cues for the handsome sedan. The car is expected to go into production in 2011 with a yearly production of 20,000 to 40,000 cars.

是的 I would buy an electric car from China…I Want To Buy An Electric Car

Wall Street Journal disagrees after having a test-drive of BYD’s E6.
“The tech chief of a global auto maker who recently drove BYD’s all-electric battery car, the e6, told The Wall Street Journal that he was “truly astonished that they plan to sell such a half-baked car” in China later this year and in the U.S. next year.
The ride was “rough,” which indicates a problem with the car’s computer control technology, and its handling was “squishy,” the executive said.”

Who is this “tech chief of a global auto maker” that the Wall Street Journal is talking about?
Has any western based newspaper or magazine had anything positive to say about China? Western jounalists are labeled as “panda lovers” if they say anything that is not negative about China. So every review about anything from China by a western publication in general is negative. I think CCT would agree with me on that. They are jealous that China is advancing in electric cars and other alternative energies while the west continues to favor rear wheel drive V8 trucks and muscle cars.
So true, Go Red. Western media are the most biased and these savages will lie, photoshop, cut photos, and do just about anything to make China look bad.
Go Red is absolutely right. The West is jealous, frightened and feels insecure after seeing the level of development and forecast in the emerging markets. This car looks really good and looks fit for the job.
Let’s not forget the car that was tested was a proto type and probably has a lot of bugs to get worked out.
Initially when Japan produced a new model they sold it in Japan for a year or more before they exported it to insure they had the highest possible quality. If China does the same thing, it won’t be long and they will take over a huge part of the market.
The US is good with styling and glitz but quality and good service is what makes return buyers and the big three in the US just don’t seem to be able comprehend thet or just don’t give a damn.
My 1993 Camry with 197,000 miles on it is still running like a top. I don’t know about Toyota service since I’ve never needed anything beyond the regular scheduled service. I didn’t have one warrantee repair. I’ve had 8 American cars before I went Japanese and I will never go back to US cars but China has got my attention.
The first transition BAW needs to make is to building sedans, free of noise, vibration and harshness, something that’s inherent in the full frame vehicles and 4 wheel drivetrains they now make.
When are those beautiful concept sedans you showed to us going to hit the streets? Hurry Beijing the rest of the field is far ahead….
The BAW built Mercs I’ve been in, and Elantras I’ve been in were quite well put together.
I could barely operate the Elantra though, my knees were nearly in the instrument panel.
But production of these joint venture products is completely in foreign hands….You need to look at their jeeps to see what they themselves are capable of.
How about a few more shots of the car?
“Fantastic, Amazing and Electric”…. until you’re stuck in the middle of the road when the batteries dies after 99km.
Yes, but how about the BYD E3 which will get over 200 miles on a charge and can get a 50% charge in less than 30 minutes.
How long do you think it will be until McDonalds, Burger King and others in the market place have charging points in their parking lot?
You get a hamburger and get a charge at the same time.
I have my Camry if I need a long trip or need something bigger but 99% of my traveling will be less than 100 miles a day, and if I need a little help, I’ll stop for a Whopper.
And for emergency, I might just have a little Honda generator in the trunk.
