I never thought I’d say this “I want an MG6″

Rover’s and MG’s were something that were ridiculed for years, many would laugh at there mere suggestion of wanting to buy a Rover (a stereotypical old mans car) or an MG (likely to turn into a kettle with plenty of steam), but the latest MG6 is only likely to make steam come out of jealous people’s ears:

The above pictures show the production ready MG6 which is likely to go into production and be on the market before February next year according to news reports. The car will be first shown at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month, where no doubt it will receive lashings of praise from attendees and the media.

The MG Logo doesn’t appear to have changed at all, despite earlier reports saying that it was getting a facelift.

And it still stands, I do want an MG6.

I love the design. SAIC buying MG is the best thing that has happended to MG. SAIC completely turned teh brand around. :)

The back is too merceded/porsche 944 for me. Looks like just a basic sedan with no excitement. I actually have to agree with Ed on this one. The bes for for MG was SAIC to buy it otherwise it wouldn’t exist. lol

Hi Ed, have you seen one in the flesh, driven one? Or is it merely a whim or wee boys dream that makes you want one?

    • avatar Ed says:

Actually, I have. And it’s a hell a lot better than all of the old MGs added together. Everything about it is just so perfect. I think Ash would agree with me on this one.

I will be at the Guangzhou show since I am trying to decide on what car to get. Hoping all the new cars coming out by next spring are there. There has to be something newer coming out that can top what is available now. I hope.

I wonder how much knowledge you have with ‘old’MGs?

  5. avatar dogtucker says:

The MG MAESTRO-now you are talking about a heap of rubbish!

  6. avatar dogtucker says:

Im sure she would thank me and knight me -Sir Dogtucker!! Im sure Lizzy would agree that gorgi crap is prefarable to an old MG Maestro crapper.

Will all the poms get over it? MG has long passed its used-by date. If BMW could not revive Rover, what makes you think SAIC can? Surely not because they have deeper pockets or superior technology? Fact is, this is a dated design (front of a Proton and rear of a Citroen) on a dated platform, with a dated drive train. If I wanted something like this, I would much rather purchase a 2002 Opel Astra.

    • avatar Ed says:

Go ahead and purchase your Opel then, if you think an Opel is so much better. BMW is a German company, and Chinese companies think differently than German ones, and they have different ideas, which is why they’ve revived the MG brand.

      • avatar FrugalOne says:

clearly they have different ideas, and think on many levels different in terms of pursuing a viable and bankable car brand. Its no so much a revival if your simply recycling old ideas is it? Whereas BMW scrapped Rover (because there is nothing to gain from the company), SAIC and Nanjing Auto paid for the obsolete technology and a ‘reputable’ (i do use that term rather loosely) brand, or half of it. Yes clearly they think differently, well spotted Ed.

And different quality cars as well! Lets be realistic, the Chinese MGs are not really going to take the world by storm let alone China.

Shouldnt really be mentioning German cars and Chinese cars in the same breath Ed,but cant quite follow your BMW analogy tho??

Why always condamn MG’s in advance? Stupid englishman…..
