BYD is first and foremost a battery maker, particularly mobile phone batteries. Even now BYD’s core business is in batteries. However, event though batteries are the most key puzzle in a electric car, it does take far more than just battery know-how to make a successful car.

For this reason, BYD will make electric cars, it’s the only reason they are in the auto market. Though I’m not too rosy on its future. The most likely out be for BYD to sell its car division to a dedicated car maker with some battery related technologies then happily take the money and make batteries for everyone. Unless, BYD keeps its car division as part of its industrial complex like Hyundai or Mitsubishi, but neither are top car makers.

It looks like Americans just can’t learn. About 50 years ago the Japanese came to the US and got all the information about American production that they could. They then not only copied it but made it significantly better.
It wasn’t long before the Japanese were producing better products than the American competition in both quality and price. Since the Japanese got ahead, the Japanese have never looked back.
Then the Koreans did the same thing but not just in cars, its appliances and all kinds of electronics. The amazing thing is that most Americans don’t seem to have a clue what is happening.
Now China is doing the same thing to the Japanese. Since the US is so far behind in technology no one wants to copy our technology.
BYD did it with batteries and now is going to try to do it with cars. While in the US the unions are slowly strangling our auto industry.
BYD has made it clear that their objective is to out produce Toyota within 15 years.
Let’s face it the US isn’t even in the race with the exception of the products they build outside the US.
The car I want to see in the US is the E3 which will not only outperform the Chev Volt but will cost about half as much.
The US may have terminal problems that will drop us into the third world category but we have only ourselves to blame for it.

Why does this argument have to be on such a personal level ?

Time will tell, whether BYD is a leader for HEV/EV or not. For now, they only sell the F3DM to selected clients and the e6 is still a prototype.

Let’s stick to the facts.

First of all, did I say that BYD will be one of the top automakers BECAUSE Warren invested in it??!! Secondly, you are arrogant and ignorant to a point where stupidity and foolishness isn’t enough to describe you. BYD excels at the hybrid + electric + dual mode compared to ANYONE. They are the world leader. Mentally challenged idiots like you should not be allowed to be here at all.

A few problems with what you’re say.

When you said ‘excel at’, what are you comparing it to? If they benchmark are tractors, then yes, they have somewhat grasped the fundamentals of a vehicle, a steering wheel and seats.

Secondly, its all well and good for Warren Buffet to invest in BYD, perhaps he knows something we don’t and has done he’s homework. But for you to say BYD will be became a top automaker because Buffet has invested in the company is pure ignorance.

All the best to BYD, but if they can convince more intellectually challenged persons such as yourself with such an acute taste for car, then perhaps there is a future for BYD yet.

There is no way BYD would give up their hybrid/electric auto business. Don’t be foolish. It’s the one thing they excel at, and it’s also why Warren Buffet invested in BYD. Warren has a reason to invest in the brand, and there’s no doubt that BYD will be one of the top automakers.

I really question why Warren Buffett invested in this company. Also I don’t know why Toyota doesn’t try to sue the pants off them, then again in China they would lose. They do seem to be doing well in China but how long do we have to wait until they actually start designing their own cars? If they want to do well internationally this is not the way to go about it.

Something I find somewhat unsettling about these sales networks (BESIDES the fact that if I want to see all of these cars I have to go to 2 or 3 different dealer showrooms)…….there is no listing in ANY of the networks regarding the F3DM, E6, rumored F0/F6DM……..what happened to BYD’s “commitment” to hybrid/electric technology? Was BYD’s grand plans for hybrid/electric cars just a bunch of chinese hype – all talk and no substance???? Warren Buffett, if you are reading this – you might want to RECONSIDER your investment in this company…and get your money out while you can.

isn’that a last gen Honda Accord? i wonder they just riped off the whole car or they acutally pay Honda to use the design.Either way i don’t think they can sell it in the US.
