Part Two: Guangzhou New Car Launches – The Internationals

20 November 2009 No Comment

In our previous article, we discussed the domestic car launches for the 2009 Guangzhou Auto Show, but as the Chinese auto market has exploded with ferocity this year and with poor sales in Europe and North America it is no wonder that they have set their sights on the Chinese market to recoup losses and turn massive profit in the PRC.

Dongfeng-Citroen
The Guangzhou launch will be the world launch for the latest Citroen C5, Dongfeng Citroen recently announced their Chinese built Citroen C5 which will enter into a crowded market segment that is traditionally cornered by the Japanese with the popular Accord and Camry models. Initial engine power is to come from 2.0L, 2.3L and 3.0L engines

Mazda3
The Mazda3 will be showing off its transition from a small mouthed car to a giant mouthed car. Overseas Mazda 3’s get the choice of a 2.5L engine, however for the Chinese market a 2.0L is expected to be the largest engine on offer.

Hyundai ix35
The Hyundai ix35 is going to get its Chinese launch in guangzhou, and will be produced in April 2010 via the Beijing Hyundai joint venture. In August this year the ix35 launched in Korea.

Mazda CX7
The Mazda CX7 is Mazda’s first entry into the SUV segment in the PRC, and will be initially imported before being put into production at the FAW-Mazda JV.

Buick YingLang – aka the New HRV

The new Buick hatchback, the Yinglang, will be the international show stopper in Guangzhou, and shows that GM still have what it takes to build small cars. The outgoing Buick HRV was based on the Daewoo Lacetti, where as the new Yinglang is based on the latest Opel Astra. The Chinese version will also carry the new 1.6T engine.

Audi Q5

As with the Mazda CX7, the Audi Q5 will be initially imported into China whilst the Chinese built version will go into production in China early next year.
