The BYD stand at any car show is great, first you visit the Toyota stand and see all the cars you like but cant afford, then you see that BYD pretty much has similar stuff but at a fraction of the price. Take the BYD M6 for example, its a great looking MPV and its set to cost a mere 150,000rmb
A launch date for the BYD M6 has not yet been announced, but some time post Chinese New Year is more than likely.

Build Your DreamCrap = BYD
Looks nice, but what about build?
that’s a pretty impressive copy. Wonder if toyota will let that one fly again and suck it up…. hehe
Toyota knows that the kind of buyers wanting Toyota branded vehicles will never settle for BYD copies. There is no need yet for Toyota to waste money on lawsuits it can’t really win. Most auto makers don’t bother getting design patents or copy right protections on the shape of the vehicle. It is simply a big waste of money. These kind of legal protections can be easily skirted by any one making slight deviations to the original design pattern. Just look at the jets made by Boeing and Airbus. Many of them all look very nearly the same but not exactly identical. There are no on going lawsuits between the 2 jet makers on the issue of aircraft outer looks.
That’s because there’s only so many ways to make a jet. All jets are long cylindrical in shape with a pointy nose, two wings and a tail. Engines are always on the wings or tail.
Just like a car has 4 wheels, two front doors, sometimes two back doors, a trunk and a hood.
Your Airbus-Boeing / Toyota-BYD comparison makes no sense.
What is your point “Esprit de Flandre”? What is your professional background? How many US and EU patents do you currently have under your name? What the hell do you know about the differences between design patents and utility patents? Where the hell are you from any ways? What is your highest educational degree and in what discipline?
Well, it looks nice. Interior looks to be made of flat color plastics…
lol. What are fiat colored plastics? I didn’t know they had their own personal pallet of colors.
The plastic color is flat, not shiney or glossy. Looks like a mid 90′s Korean car.
Nah, the Chinese car companies are not 15 years behind the Koreans.
blah blah
still, it’s a pretty good effort for a BYD. The day the copies become as good as the originals the Jap manufacturers will have to rethink their strategy.
And by the way, why is is that BYD copies mostly Jap cars?
you expect BYD to copy Chrysler or Chevrolet ? lmao.
jap is an offensive word if you can type japs then at least type just a few more letters to make “Japanese”.
at least BYD knows the good cars to copy lol they even had that old BMW logo before lol well at least they changed it to a new one. how come i never see them copy any american cars or logo ? not good enough for them ?
you forget one of the most successful carbon copies: the QQ – i.e. the Chevy Spark/Daewoo Matiz.
But of course it’s not a BYD… I think BYD has some sort of plan to brand itself as an affordable Toyota for chinese consumers. There’s a weird love affair there for Japanese cars. Funny in a way, this internal stuggle so many Chinese must have when considering Japanese cars: on one side the Chinese consumer is known to value the quality vs price ratio the most, but surely this must clash with their deep rooted resentment for the Japanese??? I always wonder when I see those driving lexus…
Personally am not so proud to drive Japanese (Honda), but my decision was entirely based on price vs quality.
what is wrong with honda ? isn’t it better than that Fix Or Repair Daily ?
I don’t have a particular affection with Japan as a country or Japanese manufacturing. I just see it as a tool. If I could have bought European I would have, and gladly, but for my budget there was nothing comparable. So I swallowed my pride and bought a brand I don’t find very attractive. It boils down to balancing consumer attitudes and pragmatism… for example if I could have bought Audi I would have. It’s the least arrogant of German cars, so pretty much de-facto my favourite brand. Beamers and Mercs are too much of a symbol status. At least in Europe. Unfortunately Audis tend to fall in that category in China too. An AWD Avant S4 would be my ideal car.
Sorry, I should add “least arrogant of German cars with character” VW doesn’t fall into that, at least it didn’t until some of their newer style models came out, though I still have to make my mind on those…
who wounldn’t want to have a German car ? ye i got your point.
