MG6 – pricing estimated at 130,000rmb to 190,000rmb
The Chinese automotive website, autohome.com.cn, is estimating the price of the soon to be produced MG6 hatchback. The eagerly awaited hatchback will come in the choice of 1.8DVVT and 1.8Turbo.
The MG6 will soon be produced in the new Shanghai Lin Gang production facility, which is also home to the Roewe 550 production facility. Pricing is expected to be 10,000rmb to 20,000rmb higher than the Roewe 550.
Power for the MG6 is taken from SAIC’s Kavachi engine series, which is a 1.8 producing 133bhp, and a max torque of 170Nm , whilst the turbo version is good for 160bhp and 215Nm of torque. Gears come in the form of a 5 speed manual and a 5 speed tip tronic automatic gearbox.
Whilst China is the first market to get the MG6, SAIC will soon be producing the MG6 in the UK with production expecting to begin before 2010.
Updated: Corrected the engine size and the torque, thanks Windy!

130-190 is higher than I was thinking. The old estimate was top model ~160k. 190k for 160bhp isn’t….what I consider a good value for power/rmb – look at the recently reviewed regal 2.0T, slightly higher priceline, but way more powerful.
Any info on the 0-100 and top speeds for mg6, am interested…also at which price point the dvvt/t split.
The turbo is supposed to be 8.0 seconds 0-100. The torque figures for the two engines are swapped over in this article nad they are 1.8 not 1.6!
If it has Lexus quality/service and has better specs than the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry, it’s worth the sticker price.
It’s actually cheaper than I thought.
190k for the 1.8T makes it breach the base model Hyundai Rohens Coupe 2.0T, which is a pretty speedy car. I believe the 2010 model runs around 6.9sec 0-100 and is electronically limited to ~220kmph top speed, 210 HP ish. I don’t know if I’d be willing to trade that and a 2 door to boot for a MG6 4 door with significantly less power, kind of disappointing price point to be honest, for a ‘sporty’ car.
I’d trade this over a Hyundai anyday, and cars are not just about speed.
That’s saying a lot, considering nobody has really test driven one of these yet
I’d suggest you read this:

It might give you a change of heart.
Rick, not sure if you still read here, but the 0-100kph time is 8.8 seconds for the MG6 1.8T.
Not bad.
Well done SAIC MG. But hurry up and bring MG BACK to the UK after all there is a massive market for MG here. Re-start production at Longbridge.
When you start selling the car in China you should also start in the Uk in the same week. Then the Uk can deal with sales for the UK and Europe.
