GM and Shanghai GM to take on India
Yesterdays suspension of SAIC shares ahead of a large announcement drove Chinese automotive news sites into speculation over drive with the rumour mill burning rumours of an LDV takeover, a share swap with its JV partners, or perhaps even an announcement regarding SAIC’s international operations.
The rumours couldn’t have been further from the truth, it appears that SAIC and GM are actually in the progress of taking over the Indian market in the same style that they dominated the Chinese market. The first range of cars that are expected to hit Indian roads are the Wuling minivans that have proved to be extremely popular with Chinese farmers in China. Although it has yet to be confirmed, it is most likely that the SAIC-GM double team will first launch the Wuling van and then follow up with other models, such as the yet to be released Wuling Demo car.
More news as we get it.

Good luck with selling Chinese car in India.
India is probably the last place where Chinese should attempt to sell their cars.
You’re saying this because your Hyundai is doing well in India and you don’t want to see another competitor there , right ?

No, China’s considered India’s no. 1 security threat and Indians dislike China very much. Buying a Chinese car in India is like buying am Iranian car in Israel; politically unacceptable. Chinese would have an easier time selling its cars in the US than in India.
I can’t believe you didn’t know this.
Right…
as if they could do better quality wise.
Indians do buy Lenovo computers. A Chinese car company will outsell Hyundai someday. It’s a matter of time.
good luck . actually most indian think that chinese good are low quality and cheap .. so it will be hard to sell anything that is connected with china ..
lets see what will this gamble shows up !
Does India have anything that is akin to the mini van, like the old Bedford Rascal?
And do you also wonder why not even a single Indian car in China ? Tell us when you work out the answer, and also think why in other markets where Indian vendors are present for decades and yet still not doing well in terms of sales and only in India where they can really flourish.
