New generation of Pug 408 spotted out testing

16 December 2009 6 Comments

The Peugeot 408 is going to be the first big Peugeot produced in China since the demise of the Guangzhou-Peugeot JV which saw the Pug 505 and 504 produced in China in the late 90′s and early 00′s. The launch of the ancient car into a fast growing market was a disaster for Peugeot, which lead to them signing up with Dongfeng a few years later and introducing new models. The 408 will take Peugeot into the mid size sedan segment, a segment that is controlled largely by the Japanese but now has European fighters and American fighters snapping at their heels.

The Peugeot 408 will be officially launched in China on January 25th 2010 according to Peugeot, its sister car, the Citroen C5 has already launched.

Is it going to be called a 408 in China? In the rest of the world it’s meant to be known as the 508.

The 308 sedan will be called 408. The 508 will be a larger sedan which will replace both 407 and 607 in 2011.
