BMW 3 Series going out of production, imports to pick up the slack

Fan of BMW will be happy to learn that BMW-Brilliance are suspending production of the 3-series in China whilst they expand their production lines in China, however, BMW plan to import the three series and sell it at the same price as the locally built three series.

BMW-Brilliance have started work on their plans to expand their JV in China that will see them expand production to 75,000 vehicles per year. The import method is set to be a temporary measure until the work is completed. The models to be imported are specifically the 325i and 320.

BMW are arguably the weaker of the ‘three big Germans’ in China, with Audi being the strongest player whilst it is the weaker of three in Europe. BMW are aiming to push against the unstoppable Audi A4L with a new stretched BMW 3 series and also a domestically made BMW X1 or X3

Few days ago, a voice in my head started to tell me SAIC is planning a JV with BMW to build the 7series locally…

    very nice!

This is an interesting move, and if I were in the market for a new 3-series I’d be very excited.

However, if BMW can sell the imported cars for the same price as the locally-produced models (and presumably still make a profit), that goes to show how grossly overpriced luxury cars are over here.

if they sell it at the same price , that is a good thing, as the qualty of germany build 3 series seems better
