2010 is CCT’s third year online, and probably going to be the best one yet, we hope that everyone enjoyed their holidays and the plentiful amounts of snow that fell on Northern China during the past two weeks.
January 1st to the 3rd was a national holiday in China, did any CCT readers undertake any roadtrips in China during that time?! Lets hear all about them via the comment box!
Happy New Year!
Ash came to China at 18 on a whim and never left. Some 10 years later he collected a degree and a family along the way and now focuses his time on watching the Chinese car industry develop. He has witnessed the market change from being minor backyard market in to the world's biggest and most important market for all car manufacturers. Nobody going first then? I drove to a very snowy Yantai on Jan 1st and then drove back the following day, the initial plan was to drive from Yantai to Weihai and spend a day in each, but the snow was a little off putting. The highways were still open thankfully and only the Yantai parts were snowed under, still driving behind a truck spraying my windscreen with snow for 80km on the only passable lane was not fun.
On the Christmas weekend I drove to Jinan for a weekend of mountain biking, which was mostly cold but lots and lots of fun.
Looking forward to more road trips in 2010, but will wait till march or april.
I enjoy this website very much.
Thank you CCT~~~
Happy New Year CCT!
No road trips over the New Year here, unless driving 20km to the shopping mall counts as one.
I’ve always wanted to visit Weihai, but in the summer time. How is it in the winter?
Winter I imagine it to be your stereotypical cold northern seaside city. Ive only driven through it in the summertime and stopped off at the KFC (or was it Dicos?) for lunch.
Yantai is fairly pleasant and has developed very well since the last time I visited (4/5 years ago), I will visit again in summer time.
I plan to visit Weihai or Yantai this summer. We originally were supposed to go last summer, but never made it out there.
Do the loop – Yantai – Weihai – Qingdao – Tai’an – Jinan – Beijing.
That would be an interesting week!
Similarly, is there any driving loops around Beijing?
Thanks for the suggestion.
I’m not sure about driving loops around Beijing. I do know that the final section of the expressway to Chengde has been completed, which should cut down on travel time. And apparently the drive to Inner Mongolia isn’t too bad (though I wouldn’t attempt this in the winter). There’s also Tianjin, but why drive there when you can take the bullet train?
There are some nice mountain roads in the outskirts of Beijing, but again, not recommended in the winter.
Excellent. I want to take a week out of married life and go on a tent living road trip on my own in August, inner mongolia sounds just the ticket!
