The Golf GTI is VW’s attempt to crack open a niche hot hatch market that has yet to materialize in the Peoples Republic.

The GTI will be produced via the FAW-VW JV which is already producing the sixth generation Golf in North East China. According to our sources, the GTI will be using a 2.0TSI engine mated to a six speed DSG gearbox. Pricing for the GTI is roughly half of what the imported GTI cost, and is likely to entice a lot of people into the VW dealerships.

I’ve yet to see a 6th generation Golf on the road. Weren’t they meant to have been launched in October?

I’ve seen several on the road here, in fact I just saw a silver one today.

I also heard that they’re experiencing unusually high failure rates with the DSG tranny, so not sure if that’s affecting the launch. Magotan 2.0T is also having DSG issues – I’d assumed that VW was importing the DSG trannies fully-assembled, so I wonder if the VW’s sold in other parts of the world are also having similar problems.

Seen a few here, not so offensive, but it doesnt exactly stand out either.
