2010 to become the year of the Chinese car

The age of the electric car is about to begin with the help of the Chinese government, so we can expect a massive push of electric cars from the concept stage into the production stage in the next few months.

Growing oil prices are expected to be an even larger push for the Chinese government to in turn push state owned and privately held Chinese car companies to speed up the development and production of electric cars and hybrid models within the next 12 months.

As the Chinese car market matures, consumers are no longer chasing large displacement engines to gain ‘face’ amongst family and friends, more and more consumers are going towards small displacement engines which is going against the 买得起车,养不起车 (can buy a car, but cannot afford a car), thus a new generation of electric and hybrid cars with lower running costs are needed to keep the industry fluid.
