BAW to launch Saab models next year

Late last year it was announced that Beijing Automotive Works (BAW) had purchased several models from Saab’s owners, GM, the IPR fire sale included three platforms and two turbo assisted engines from Saab, in 2011 BAW is planning to get its own ‘Baw-aab‘ out into dealerships across China.

BAW reportedly signed up a team of Saab engineers within 30 days of completing the purchas to work with BAW towards the goal of getting their own BAW branded Saab vehicle off the drawing board and into the factory in early 2011.

From what we have learned, the cooperation is not only just for understanding technology, the Saab team are also expected to advise on the factory designed also production methods. The real work for the Saab team is explaining the ECU and other high end tech works.

This year BAW are planning to produce 1.5 million cars, and aim for an income of 15 billion RMB. We might be able to see a new Baw-aab at this years Beijing Auto Show in April, if not then BAW will be eager to show off new engines, and gearboxes.

    ah, well.

    Am ok with that.

At least, thank god saab was saved by spyker yesterday.

Now the baws-aab can be what they are improved Chinese cars, and clearly no saabs.

‘Baw-aab‘ is an awesome name. they should go for that. still though, the 9-3 and old 9-5 tooling and engines are quite dated, it wont be anything cutting edge, but its leaps and bounds over what BAIC has now and it’ll be good for r&d down the track. I guess if they make it cheap enough, it’ll sell. should have bought SAAB outright, Spyker got it for a bargin

dude if baic had bought it it would really only have value in the Chinese Market. Think IBM and lenovo. They’d probably turn it into another roewe.

Spyker is a very small brand, so I remain sceptical of what they can acheive. But in any case this arrangement cleary had more potential than the former.

In other words, I’d rather be a saab owner than a volvo owner today…
