Huatai sedan, spotted again complete with interior shot
Huatai are taking a lot of flack for producing a sedan that initially appeared to have a lot of Bentley styling, but it appears that Huatai are well on their way to producing a car for a niche market that Chinese automakers have largely overlooked until now.
Chinese automakers have mostly involved in a race to the bottom of the barrel cost wise, and have been in a race to produce ever cheaper cars with ever lower profit margins. Huatai seem not too interested in getting involved in this game with its high set up costs and low profit margins, instead they seem intent on going after the semi premium market segment that Chinese automakers are only just waking up and looking at.
Whilst Hutai’s sedan certainly does look the part, we’re still unsure as to what is exactly under the bonnet, rumors of a 2.4L off the shelf Mitsubishi engine have been circulating online for quite some time, but nothing has yet been confirmed, there is also the possibility of the Roewe 1.8T unit being used here, previously Hutai did license the engine for SUV use. Huatai themselves are being very secretive about this car, and are unwilling to share information, but obviously it has been spotted out testing and a factory picture seems to have leaked out to the net (above, left)
The interior is just as impressive as the exterior, judging by these spy shots:
The Huatai sedan is expected to be launched later this year with it being aired at the Beijing Auto Show later this year. An eventual price has yet to be announced, but it could be anywhere from 120,000rmb to 180,000rmb.

That fluffy steering wheel cover shouts ‘premium’ to me.
So does it drive and crash like a Bentley and a Jaguar?
You will have to wait to find out. However, i doubt it, that’d be too unoriginal and old fashioned.
1) 120-180k seems a bit low for this class of car. I’d expect it to be priced closer to the likes of Roewe 750/MG7.
2) With the recent decree that more government auto purchases be from domestic makes, you can guess who Huatai hope to be selling this car to.
doesn’t look that awful to me.
looks like a camry with a bently grille
… No it doesn’t.
not the chinese camry you see, which is not even a real camry. just look at the headlights, surely is camry/epica inspired
