Ford-Chang’an to continue with Volvo China production…
Ford and Chang’an set up a JV to make Volvo cars in China a few years back, the JV is small but does produce the S40 sedan in China, and also assembles the S80 from knockdown kits for the domestic market (these are popular with astronauts)
From Reuters:
We respect the existing Volvo production contract between Ford and its JV partners. The Chongqing plant will continue to make S40s and S80s until the agreement expires,” Victor Young, public relations director for Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, told a small group of reporters in the eastern city of Hangzhou.
Geely are also planning to build a large Beijing factory to churn out Volvo’s to make back their investment in Volvo via the Chinese market. It is still unclear what models the Beijing factory will produce when it comes online in the near future.
