Chang’an Suzuki to recall over 10,000 cars

Its not been a great week for the Japanese automakers, the biggest loser of course being Toyota, but now Suzuki are getting in on the action.

From Peoples Daily

China’s quality watchdog said Friday that Chongqing Chang’an Suzuki Automobile Co., a sino-Japanese joint venture, would recall 10,326 Alto vehicles due to gas filter problems on the Chinese mainland as of Feb. 5.

Oil leaks may occur due to gas filter faults caused by improper manufacturing techniques, and will post potential safety risks, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (GAQSIQ) said in a statement on its website.

The recall involved Alto models produced from July. 6, 2009, to Jan. 17 this year, and the manufacturer would fix the problems for free, said the statement.

Owners can contact Chongqing Chang’an Suzuki Automobile by phone on 400-1077988 or contact the GAQSIQ on 010-65537365.

    Another one. What really upsets me is the fact that Toyota knew the problem with their gas pedals since 2000. But they never acknowleged the problem until 10 years later; until more than 2000 accidents have occured; until the media started to report the issue. They ignored it all this time while people’s lives were being destroyed. This is absolutely unacceptable, especially for a company like Toyota. Japanese studies have shown that the quality of their products dropped 84% in the last 5 years, and I’m never buying Toyota.

    This is an article on Suzuki. I am sure you could find one on Toyota to vent if you did a search.

    @Head Honcho
    That just makes it better. Another one after Toyota.
    I’m not here to vent, but the quality of Japanese products in general have decreased tremendously, and that’s not okay. Not taking notice until people’s lives were lost is not okay. Improper manufacturing techniques on a company decades old like Suzuki is not okay. It’s really interesting how when a Chinese company makes a mistake, you pounce on it and attack them in every way you can; yet when Japanese companies which are known for their quality, make even bigger mistakes, you are suddenly so quiet.

    You are right it isn’t ok but Suzuki has never made a really high quality car. They have always been known for problems. I know many people don’t group Suzuki with Honda, Toyota or Subaru. Ever since Mazda was partially owned by Ford it has been out of the group too.
