No suprises here: Audi sales soaring in China, leaving BMW and Merc trailing behind


Sales of Audi vehicles in China reached an impressive 16,798 vehicles in January 2010, compared to 7,816 vehicles in January 2009 which looks like an excellent start to 2010 for VAG groups premium brand.

Audi’s 2009 total auto sales in China reached just over 160,000 vehicles in 2009, and with Audi predicting 2010 to be a stronger year than 2009, Audi could sell closer to 200,000 vehicles in China this year. Audi is the stronger of three German manufacturers in China due to its early entry into the Chinese marketplace via the VW-FAW JV, BMW in comparrison sold 90,500 in 2009 (up 38% over 2008) and Mercedes sold 70,000 (up 65% over 2008).

Audi’s homeland rivals maybe on pace to catch up with them in 2010, BMW’s January sales were upto 11,657 vehicles (up 122%), but Mercedes is still trailing with sales of 8400 units, but posted a higher growth in sales (up 147%).

Audi cars remain popular with government agencies, but sales to government agencies may wean as Volvo becomes a Chinese company.

    To compare Audi & Volvo reliability… it is really likes A to V. Volvo is a very troublesome car..the built is less solid and material used doesn’t last that long. I have them both an A4 & S60.
