Dongfeng-Honda to produce self developed hatchback

Dongfeng-Honda have been in a partnership for quite sometime, they build the more popular Honda cars such as the CRV, the Civic and the City mini car, what they don’t have is a hatchback. Dongfeng-Honda have been rumored to be introducing the Honda Civic into the Chinese market in hatch form for quite some time, but it seems that they are actually pushing to produce their own self developed Honda hatch for the Chinese market.

Details on the hatch appear to be in short supply, but it does look like the car will be based around the Honda City sedan which is an economy sedan for the Chinese market, which does indicate that the hatch will be aimed at the lucrative 80,000rmb to 120,000rmb segment and will probably carry a 1.5l or 1.6L engine.

Both Toyota and Honda have been relatively slow to react to market requirements in China, and both lack a comprehensive range of sub 1.6L models that are carrying the market to new heights.

Dongfeng-Honda have recently increased their production capacity to 240,000 vehicles per year.
