Indycar race appears to be heading for China circa 2012
F1 seems to have certainly become the race of choice for many Chinese motorsport enthusiasts, but Indycar seemed determined to bring their driving skills to China at some point the future to show the Chinese that driving in circles is actually quite fun:
Terry Angstadt, Indy Racing League president of commercial affairs, says the league has begun discussions with the Chinese government aimed at bringing an IndyCar Series race there within the next few years.
The defunct Champ Car series tried several times to run a race in China, without success, but Angstadt told the Associated Press that IRL officials have been to China two or three times already for negotiations, and met with high-level government officials.
“We are not there yet,” he told the AP of an IndyCar race in China. “It’s something for at least two years in the future, maybe three.
Previously we did report on a proposed Indycar race happening in Qingdao, but little news of that project has come out in the past few weeks.
