Toyota to compensate Chinese drivers
This is actually a first for the Chinese car industry, and may well be a precedent to further compensation by other car companies that recall their products in China
From Reuters:
SHANGHAI, March 30 (Reuters) – Japanese auto maker Toyota (7203.T) will recall some RAV4 vehicles in China and compensate their buyers after complaints from customers in China’s eastern Zhejiang province, a provincial government body said.
The recall of all affected vehicles will be completed by the end of April and their owners will be given compensation, the Zhejiang Administration of Industry and Commerce said on its website (www.zjaic.gov.cn), as seen by Reuters on Tuesday.
Local media reported that it would be the first case in mainland China of buyers of vehicles being compensated after their vehicles had been recalled. [ID:nTOE62S095]
It is unclear whether the recall would affect only buyers in Zhejiang province or include other areas. The amount of compensation was not specified in the statement.
Toyota, which produces cars in China in tie-ups with FAW Group and Guangzhou Automobile, sold 709,000 cars in China last year, up 21 percent from the previous year. But that accounted for a relatively modest 5 percent of the market.
The firm has been struggling for more than two months to reassure a jittery public that it has turned a corner in dealing with safety issues that sparked a recall of 8.5 million vehicles.
Many Chinese car buyers have long complained that international automakers have not offered them compensation in recalls despite doing so for Western customers.

If chinese car companies(buldYourDreamcrap) were to do that, they would be bankrupted!
Have you ever heard of a BYD recall? NO. Not even their batteries. BYD is in a way better position than THE crap, Toyota.
How about their battery recharger for Nokia?
You’re presumptuous, and your logic is flawed.
Because a vehicle is recalled does not make it, or its manufacturer, inferior to another vehicle or another manufacturer. Because BYD hasn’t made some big public recall doesn’t mean they don’t have massive problems. In fact, I’d *rather* my vehicle be recalled, at least they’re finding and fixing problems.
There’s a reason BYD is known as a second class vehicle.
I see that Toyota must be hurting these days. Many of my co-workers that really wanted to buy a car this year and most talked about buying Toyota, have now changed minds and started looking at other brands. Toyota need to have some finance deal for foreigners also and have us out there driving around so the locals can see Toyota is now ok. Many Chinese ask me about which car they should buy. Because they all think foreigners have been driving for years and know cars well.
They should also be considering the reputation of the JV partner, rather than just the foreign brand. This is especially true for makes that have more than one JV here.
Which are the best JV partners?
Obviously this is somewhat subjective, but apparently Guangzhou is pretty good.
And based on my own experience and also what I’ve seen, I would give the nod to Chang’an.
It would be interesting to see if this issue has ever been discussed in the Chinese automotive press.
JD Power Asia has a pretty decent answer to that!
Volvo is a Chinese car do you know that.?
yes chinese is have ag great volvo now
