BYD’s first SUV is looking good – Spy Pics
BYD have an impressive line up of cars for 2010, with the launch of the L3, the G3, and the M6 all on the verge of being launched or have been launched already, BYD are obviously keen to repeat their massive 2009 sales and are probably on course to become the worlds biggest automaker by 2025. Their latest spy pictures of the BYD SUV show that although it is similar to the Lexus RV it does have its own design style which really suits the front end of the SUV. The interior also appears to be quite handsome.
The S6 as it is now known (The S standing for SUV, and the M-series logically standing for MPV series) will have a full electronic sunroof and sliding luggage rack which is practical and according to sources will not just be for decoration. The exterior appears to have keyless entry, and the interior looks to be quite luxurious which shows that BYD are continually thinking about going up market.
Engine power is likely to be derived from the same source as the BYD M6, aka a Mitsubishi supplied 4G69 2.4L SUV which is good for 160BHP at 5800rpm, and a max torque of 215Nm at 3500-4500rpm. A 2.0L model will be offered, which is BYD’s own self developed engine that produces 103kw of power (140bhp) at 6000rpm, and 186Nm at 4000-4500rpm, however this model will only be available with a 5 speed manual gearbox.

Did GYD(BuildYourDreamCRAP) reverse engineer one of their boss’s car again?
It’s BYD, get their name right first. and there is no C in their name, so nice try.
Don’t cry Fenqing! I don’t want to hurt a little b!tch like you.
Here I edited…
“Did BYD(BuildYourDreamcrap) reverse engineer one of their boss’s car again?”
god looking both exterior and interior. good job BYD
Biggest AutoMaker by 2025…are you insane?
Hey, since you are so quick to diss him, that means you are better off, eh?! When was the last time you founded a company and got 100000 people working for you? That’s what I thought.
I would give the man some credit. I don’t personally know that many people who started as a peasant and are now billionaires.
I updated the story with a link which I forgot to add the first time around.
Why don’t you start a company that can have China’s number one selling model in just 6 years? At this rate, they will be on top of the world even before 2025.
A 6 year rise can always turn into a 1 year fall. It will happen if they put much money into exporting to the United States and Europe soon.
It hasn’t happened yet, so keep your mouth shut right now. ANYTHING can happen, it can become the largest automaker in 2012. Besides, an 100 year rise can turn into a 1 year fall.
Ed you are a pretty rude guy eh. When you were little no one taught you any manners. BYD doesn’t have a chance at success in any country with an established car market. Tehy are going to be seen as another crappy product from China of low quality. BYD is just keeping the Chinese reputation of cheap copied crap going. China needs to hide and bury companies like that. They are an embarrassment.
Pathetic, just absolutely pathetic. You spend so much time insulting each other that you both ignore the FACTS.
Fact – Some of BYD’s newest designs (like this S6 and the E6) are NOT CLONES. Yes, they have similarities to many other cars, but they are not clones. BYD is starting to show signs of original designs, and this is a big step for them if they really want to make it long term as a auto company. I’m not excusing earlier cars like the F3 and F0, they ARE clones and we know it – I’m just recognizing the FACT that they are starting to get away from that.
Fact – Taxi fleets around China are starting to use the F3 for taxi use (one of the reasons why the F3 is the top seller in China right now), and we all know how taxis get used and abused here. No taxi fleet would ever consider buying a car for taxi use unless it showed itself to be reliable and durable – a big reason why the old VW Jetta and Santana keep hanging around for so long. The fact that the F3 is being purchased by taxi fleets says A LOT about the quality of the car, and the consumer sees that as well. I’m NOT saying that the F3 is better or worse than the Jetta or Santana (so don’t try to twist my words), but obviously it’s not a piece of crap either. BYD can build a decent car, and they’ve proven that now.
Fact – BYD’s success is largely dependent on the dominant sales of ONE MODEL – the F3. Yes, the QQ3 helps to drive Chery’s sales as well (Chery is still #1 in sales for chinese car companies, BYD is #2), but Chery has a larger, more diversified model lineup to help overall sales figures. If you take away the F3 (and maybe the F0), what does BYD REALLY have at that point? Not much right now. Unless BYD plans on building the F3 as is for the next 15 years for taxi fleets (the same basic reason that the current Jetta and Santana still exist), they need to offer more to the consumer than what they have now – and not depend on the success of ONE model to continue to fuel their profits.
This year and next year (2010/2011) will be critical for BYD…..they have a number of new models ready to go (G3, M6, S6, E6) and it will be very interesting to see how successful they are with the consumer. So……..can we PLEASE have a lively discussion about the FACTS now, and stop hurling pathetic insults at each other?
Head Honcho,
I feel greater shame when there is no car here made in China–yet, not event a unoriginal copy-cat. I feel greater shame for all these countries, most of the 194 on this planet could not make even a unoriginal car and i feel greater shame when, just back a few years ago, no Chinese companies dare to even try to make a self branded car.
BYD had done what it stated to do. when “innovation” is very trendy back a few years ago, BYD boss scorn that: “(gasoline cars) do not need any innovation, they just need quality control and cost control” that is just what BYD did from the beginning, as a contract manufacture for Nokia, Moto, Apple(some of the iphone you are using are made by BYD), BYD stated, they will tear apart cars from all over the world, if there is patent they will work around it, if there is no patent. they just use it. you got problem with this? then its your problem. China is a vast country with 70% population are still live in the countryside, who has not acquired the taste of their first ever car to stylistically unique and the willingness to pay a huge premium for it.
BYD will sell cars in the west, BYD’s strategies is to sell gasoline cars to the developing world and EV to the developed world. their EV(E6) is stylistically not a copy of anything.
I short, everything BYD did make sense and is the best things to do for the particular situations. now for these who worship endless reshaping sheet metal, and termed it “innovation”, wake up, these is a market, the biggest in the world, just don’t share your opinion. stylistic nuance, individualism is just not big part of majority Chinese consumers.
that does not mean BYD does not innovate, it just put its innovation energy where it matters, find a fuel other than oil to drive the car. there are over 100 car makers in China right now. only one is BYD matters, all the other are just irreverent. take it from me.
about quality. a few year ago, when Sony’s and Sanyo’s batteries are exploding all over the world and in the nes everywhere, I write to one of the major newspaper tell them there is a Chinese company called BYD make the same battery and supply the same customer with prehaps more quantity, and there is no reported safety issue so far, why don’t report a “Make in China battery beat Make in Japan battery in quality and safety” at a time when every english media portray “Make in China are Crap”. you know the results, they never report it. so don’t get me started on “Make in China” issue. there is a unspoken agree amount western media to put China down.
Finally – someone with some actual smarts chipping into a CCT thread. Please keep coming back and continue to comment.
That is all great and all Cover but the trust is the quality of their cars and how they drive still isn’t up to par. I have driver 3 models and none of them compared to the Honda, Toyota, Ford, cars. They were comparable to some other Chinese cars though. They may be tops for a Chinese brand but they are still trailing by quite a bit. They can have a future selling abroad but there is no evidence that they can make a car that would do well with overseas sales yet.
I’m sure BYD products are crap and low quality. Which is the reason why they are top sellers? Ever considered what your brain is for? BYD’s quality is no lower than the average automaker.
What BYD has is technology, critical battery technology that will give them a huge boost once the world realizes (and puts into action) that the future is alternative energy vehicles. This is one of reasons why Buffet invested in BYD, and is planning to invest more. a majority of the car makers started by copying other’s designs, this one is ORIGINAL, we are already seeing an applaudable departure from their old designs. Like I’ve said before, GIVE THEM CREDIT, because they deserve it, a lot more than you, HH.
It is true
Looks boring.
Looks great. Great effort by BYD, especially love the interior.
I like the Noah’s ark taillight inspiration. That’s original. But the side view seems familiar. Will propulsion be electric eventually too?
honda MDX front, Veracruz rear, honda rip-off interior
profile ripped off a Lexus RX
uhuh, sure. Nice job labeling BYD’s original car a copy. Why don’t you go and label every other car that’s out there, since I’m sure they have a lot of similarities.
looking both exterior and interior very elegant. do you have any plan to export it to Sri Lanka. it is high time for all Chinese automakers to infiltrate SriLankan auto market. you can enjoy the benefit of tax reduction by the government now . India is already in the job. Be hurry
