Chevrolet Cruze to get 1.6 turbo engine this year
The Chevrolet Cruze has been a good seller for Shanghai-GM with it appearing to be one of the more popular cars on the road since its launch late last year, now the Cruze is aiming to be the recipitent of a 1.6Turbo engine that is currently installed in the Buick Excelle 1.6T hatchback. The 1.6T is good for 184bhp through the front wheels, and will prove to be popular in the Cruze which is already selling well on the back of its advertising which positions it as a sporty car.
Shanghai-GM will also be displaying the Chevrolet Aveo RS at this years Beijing Auto Show.

UK version Chev Cruz has a very poor ride should have had the Watts-Z linkage My 2 litre auto Diesel only gets 29.4 mpg, The instruments can not be read in strong sunlight and the steering wheel obscures the higher MPH mnumerals making it easy to exceed speed limits. The plastic is rubbish marks too easily.Has two completely useless features Auto lights & rainsensing wipers. Lacks essential features found on Dodge Caliber, Excellent easy to read instrument dials, tyre pressure monitor, compass, powered foldback door mirrors. chilled drinks locker. Interior light comes on when engine switched off. Front overhead map lights should come on when opening doors. Inaccessable trip meter tied into Fuel Display Menu readout hopelessly inaccurate. Best feature provision of full size spare wheel.
The car is not as bad as the previous poster makes it to be. I am proud owner of 1.8 LT and although I will agree with sunlight and mediocre plastic quality, you can’t argue that you get much of a car for the price. 5 star euroncap rating, comfortable and safe ride (not sporty but it is not a sport car), ok fuel consumption which if you try can be good. I only miss powered door mirrors. As for tyre pressure etc you can check on your own imho every once in a while. You get 6 a/b 6cd changer clima etc. I have one design gripe the position of fan switch which can be easily turned by accident from the passengers’s knee. I think personaly for the character of the car the 1.4 T that exists in USA with 140 hp and nice fuel consumption is a better match for the car character than the proposed 1.6 but maybe they fear too much for loosing Astra and Insignia sales. I feel 184 is a bit excessive for this car unless there is a new suspension thrown in.
I have a 2011 Cruze SRi 1.4 Turbo with 6 speed manual. This is a superb car… excellent value, brakes that will pull your hair line forward, economical, roomy, comfortable and luxurious. I reckon the first guy was a Ford stooge… Power is excellent, also, but dies off a little as it warms up… may need an intercooler. Rear vison is not good. Could use a light around the ignition key.
Is this in China or elsewhere?
My 2011 Cruze SRi is in Sydney, Australia.
Interesting, thanks!
