IAT concepts for the 2010 Beijing Autoshow
Hello folks! It’s me, the Analyst. I am the newest editor on CCT, and I’ll be here to help Ash with the site. I am still familiarizing myself with WordPress, so please have a little patience…
IAT-auto, which introduced the Wufeng concept back in 2006, is coming back to Beijing this year. With designs “inspired by Chinese tradition and culture,” IAT is planning to hop on the green bandwagon, making eco-friendly cars in cooperation with Japanese battery maker ENAX.
They have 3 concepts this year, the first one is the “Zhu Feng” (Bamboo Wind).
Its top speed is 145 km/h (90 mph) and has 160 km (100 mi) range.
The second car is the eTaxi, a more standard looking sedan. Its battery pack is designed to be easily replaced in 90 seconds, so you can avoid long charging times.
The recharge time is 8 hours, with an 80% fast recharge time of 30 min. The battery weighs 250kg.
Last but not least, there is the Wufeng II, an updated, meaner and sportier looking version of their 2006 concept, featuring gullwing doors.
It has a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) and it can go from 0 to 100 km/h (60 mph) in 7 seconds.

Welcome Analyst and thanks for a great heads up regarding IAT’s offerings this year. I like the Wufeng II, but as for that Zhu Feng, it just doesn’t do anything for me. It looks like the cocoon that the SAIC Leaf came out of……
For folks who don’t know, IAT is a Japanese company with an office in Beijing, and an affiliation with Tsinghua University.
But please Analyst, among IAT’s various customers in China, could you tell us which ones have put any of IAT’s designs into production. The Chery Higgo is the only one I know of so far. Thanks
I believe the QQ6 was the first car designed by IAT.
And I wouldn’t call it a “Japanese company.” As far as I know, these cars have been designed by Chinese designers, in China.
Although it has been active in designing cars in China, I thought its parent company was Mitsui of Japan, but am not certain.
In checking further I see that it also designed the
A1 of FAW Tianjin, and the S3 and M2 of FAW Haima. It gets credit for design of the Chery Karry Youya too.
IAT turned into a Cayman Company in 2007, which owns its subsidiaries in China and Japan. It was started by a Chinese designer who worked at mitsubishi.
