Brilliance FSV RS gives bland sedan some sport

Brilliance FSV 300x189 Brilliance FSV RS gives bland sedan some sportThe Brilliance FRV is a great little hatchback car, but Brilliance gave into popular demand and gave it a sedan sibling which doesn’t quite sit well compared to its original hatch brother. The forthcoming Brilliance FSV RS corrects some of the blandness that comes with the regular FSV, specifically with the addition of a sports bodykit, grill, and a fresh set of alloys.

It’s not entirely clear what engine the Brilliance FSV RS will be getting, the FSV might just continue with its regular Mitsubishi sourced engines, or there is the chance of a Brilliance developed 1.8T unit making its way into the FSV to give that spark that really needs. Of course there are those of us that are still waiting to see the original FRV GT 1.8T.

I hope this isn’t the best that Brilliance has to offer in Beijing this month.

Boy dragin, you sure got that one right! I mean, there is nothing wrong with this car……it does add a little spice to a conservative (but attractive) design – but this isn’t even a new car – the FSV is already in production! Doesn’t Brilliance have at least ONE new car/concept to show us in Beijing???? IMO, this is the one BIG problem with Brilliance – the lack of a diversified model range. No, they don’t need 39 new cars/concepts (like the massive output from Geely), but at this point they don’t even have a sub-compact, or a hybrid/electric car (we did see the EV last year, but what’s happening with it?)….and the Junjie is starting to look a bit old compared to cars like the VW Lavida or the new Roewe 350 (and the 550 too). Brilliance, you produce some wonderful cars – but your development time for new products is holding you back from being the company you COULD be. Your EV concept was wonderful – why aren’t you doing anything with it? Your design team obviously knows a few things about designing some nice cars – how about applying that excellence to a nice sub-compact/city car? Come on Brilliance, you’re better than this – show us what you can REALLY do.

It is probably better for them to display one or two ‘wow cars’ rather than spam the audience’s eyes with 40 models. At least they will get better press coverage for one model, than 50.

Their facelift cross wagon is probably going to be a major feature.

I agree Ash – but will Brilliance have anything at Beijing that is truly NEW? I love the Junjie wagon, and a cross version will be great – but it still isn’t a NEW car, it’s a spiced up version of a already existing model. Let’s face it – the last NEW car they’ve put on the market is the FSV, and that was almost a year ago. If all their designers can come up with is the FRV cross, the FSV RS and the Wagon cross in a year’s period of time………maybe they need to shorten their lunch breaks or spend a few extra evenings at the office!! :) In music we would call that variations on a theme……..I’m still waiting for them to develop a NEW theme.

It’s likely to be a year of technological advancement for Brilliance, rather than a year of new models. We will see these though:

          *Coupe CVT
          *FSV Sports
          *Hybrid BS6
*Cross Wagon (maybe, but highly likely)

I’m sure they will pull off something brilliant, they are Brilliance after all, lol. But seriously, they build solid cars, and the improvement on this one is great.

Looked better before they made more Volkswagon.

  4. avatar Ed says:

They’ve improved the design even more, I’ve always liked the original design, but this is better.

Doesn’t the front end look more like an old Jetta now?

    • avatar Ed says:

No it doesn’t, it looks so much nicer than an old Jetta. Enlarge the picture and see the difference.

      • avatar Head Honcho says:

More Skoda with the ridge down the hood than jetta.

        • avatar Ed says:

It looks much better than both of the cars you’ve mentioned, and there isn’t even a resemblance with the cars. Just stop trying, it’s nice and it’s original.

        • avatar Head Honcho says:

It isn’t nice. I didn’t say they copied it or anything. But the front reminds me of a Volkswagon or Skoda. Leave it at that. You can’t argue against what I think. I think the orignal looked better. Feels like they stepped back in time instead of forward but many car companies do that.

You can thank Bo Xilai and his government for Brilliance’s demise. They kicked the legs out from under the company when they sent Yang Rong packing. Yang was the mastermind that got the company off to a good start way ahead of Chery and Geely. Today most of us would have a hard time telling you who is running the show at Brilliance. In 2009 when everyone was up, Brilliance’s sales were down 5 percent. And so now it is just a matter of time until the company is absorbed by one of the big 4 SOEs, probably FAW.

I think it looks really attractive for a low-cost basic sedan.
