NINE! new Great Wall Cars to launch in Beijing

As with Shanghai 2007′s Auto Show, Greatwall has yet again supplied another great line up of concept cars that are highly likely to hit the production lines before the end of the year.

The C30 is set to launch first, although the interestingly styled C50 is set to launch soon after. The C50 is possibly a toned down version of GWM’s previous concept sedan that had a hint of Mondeo about it but overly looked like a great car.

Oddly enough, the Hover brand seems to have become Haval, which doesn’t really have the same strike to it as Hover did. We actually saw this in a newspaper advert of GWM at the weekend and put it down to an editorial editor, obviously it isn’t.

The sedans have come under the Teng Yi name, with their English name being set as Voleex, an odd but unusual name in itself. GWM’s line up is starting to look better all the time, it really has expanded well away from its traditional line up of SUVs and pick up trucks into more well balanced car line up that ranges from small to large which will take it into Europe and more than likely other markets as well.

This may be a stretch but I wouldn’t be surprised if the Great Wall marketing guys thought it would be cool to make a contraction of the words “have all”. Maybe after overhearing some laowai talking about folks who want to “have it all”.
It’s a bit like the choice of Riich by Chery and Gleagle by Geely. They are doing it all in house and are not willing to bring in global marketing hands.
It reminds me of when native English speakers try to figure out Chinese personal names and get them all ass backwards.
I’ll leave it to someone else to try to figure out how they came up with “Voleex”.:-)

I think that it’s really interesting to make up compound words for the names of cars, what with the name of a car essentially being completely otiose.

The C50 looks really nice. I’m hoping the C30 doesn’t have cloned Yaris roots, because the profile and a-piller is identical to the Yaris sedan.

C50 looks really nice indeed. I am still seeing some Yaris in the Florid Cross tho

The names are atrocious. They need to hire English-speaking consultants ASAP.

Nice job Great Wall. Like the names as well, there is no such thing as weird or bad when it comes to names, unless it is suggestive of something inappropriate. But I don’t see a problem with Haval or Voleex.

Hover is a much better name than Haval. What were they thinking? Also, the new ‘Havals’ seem to be uglier and more dated then the Hovers.

I think your all better of keeping your money in your pockets, As this car will all fall apart like the rest of the chinese cars on the market.
