BAW’s new Beijing Jeep line up, and forth coming Saab based model
Beijing Auto Works (BAW) are probably keen to show off their new cars in their own backyard, if everyone was coming to your house for a party and you had nothing to offer you would feel a little embarrased, but Beijing Auto are aiming to be the life of the Auto Show party with their line up of cars that ranges from bad ass looking SUV’s to a new Saab based sedan.

The B40 SUV really does look like a meaty SUV, and it has been spotted out testing in China quite a few times therefore it might be having its official launch at the Beijing Auto Show. The Chinese press are calling it ‘The Chinese Jeep Wrangler’, so it should be in good company with The Chinese Hummer. Eventual pricing for the B40 has not yet been announced, but prices of circa 150,000rmb are likely.
The B90 really does look like an interesting machine with its Grand Jeep Cherokee and Range Rover styling, it is sure to be an interesting model to see on the big day.
The SUV’s may be cool, but the real star of the line up is the Beijing C71, based on the Saab technology that Beijing Auto acquired from Saab prior to its sale to Spyker cars earlier this year. Powerplants for the above models, aside from the EV, are likely to be Saab units in turbo and naturally aspirated form. We will have to wait until press day to confirm however, but it is looking highly likely.

The last two are good. The first two are crap.. BAW has an Chinese that used to work for Gm, and He should know better.
It will be very interesting to see what BAW can do with the technology that they bought from Saab. It’s fun to compare the progress of companies using self developed technology with those that are importing platforms and engines from overseas. The larger companies with joint ventures seem to have an advantage in getting new product to market, but maybe one of the mid-size firms will come up with a truly unique Chinese style for the 21st century.

The larger companies with jont ventures have the advantage now using existing platforms and buying old platforms but are they really learning to develop their own cars or just re-engineer them. The companies actually developing their own cars may be making less desirable cars now but they may be learning more for the future.
B40 looks like the bastard offspring of a Jeep/Land Rover and the B90 is almost complete copy of a Land Rover Discovery

They all look nice, and the concepts shown in Beijing two years ago were great.
For B40 & B90 the design is ripped off from Land Rover, C30 takes the design from from Lancia Delta (http://www.google.fi/images?q=lancia+delta). C71 is just an 14 years old Saab with a nose job. It’s funny when the design is ripped from different manufacturers the cars in comparison to each other have no common family look.
Who in their right mind would buy these things. I’d be embarrassed to death driving these cheap knockoffs…

Landrover? The B40 looks like a Jeep, because it is a Jeep, probably the old wrangler.
