Besturn B70 becomes FAW B70

It appears that the short lived Besturn brand from First Automobile Works (FAW) has finally been killed off and been given the FAW badge instead. Besturn was never going to be a great name for car, with it either being Best Urn or Bes Turn, but more likely to be the first one of the two. Ultimately it appears to have become a major branding disaster for FAW, but that has not dampened sales of the flagship sedan in the Chinese marketplace. The below pictures show a minty looking B70 being wheeled into the Beijing Auto Show, complete with a FAW badge:

The B70 was FAW’s first serious attempt at mass producing a mid size car, all of its other vehicles, notably the shockingly poor Xiali range, were based on ex-Toyota technology from its partnership with the Japanese automotive giant. The B70 however was based on the last generation Mazda6 platform, which they miniaturized for the Besturn B50 and paired with a 1.6L engine. A future B30 is reportedly in the works, and is based on either the VW Sagitar platform or the ancient VW Jetta platform and will appeal to budget buyers in China.

Whatever comes next, killing off the Besturn brand is probably FAW’s best bet.
