Roewe 750 sales must be slow – throwing in 12,000rmb’s worth of free fuel
Sales of the Roewe 750 must be horribly slow in Beijing this month, as one dealer is throwing in 12,000rmb’s worth of free petrol to any buyer of the 750. One Beijing dealer is reporting that he has one of every color and every specification, which might mean he is actually overstocked and looking to clear the showroom.
Furthermore, the R750 comes with a three year 80,000km warranty with maintenance due every 5000km costing 210rmb for an oil change, or 450 for a more advanced service. Either way, the 750 is looking a lot like a major bargain.

I always wondered why both Nanjing and SAIC rushed to put their versions of the R75 into Chinese production. Having seen the car in person in 1999, I thought it was a uniquely handsome car. By the time they began production in China however, the design was quite dated. It seems that using the platform for a new vehicle would have been a more reasonable way to use the assets that they had purchased. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe that either the Roewe 750 or MG7 have seen much sales success in China,
while the more modern looking Roewe 550 is doing much better. Isn’t the replacement model coming next year?
The MG7 has sold really badly. As far as I know they’ve never managed to sell more than 1,000 in a year. The 750 is not such a turkey. However, the 550 has done much better and the 350 may even better it.
The 750 will supposedly be replaced in 2012. Sales have probably been tailing off but I have no figures to support this comment. The 550 offers a much better equipment specification than the 750 and this may partly lead to lack of sales for the 750.
In Shanghai they recently introduced a whole load of old model Buick LaCrosses as Expo Taxis. Whether these are old stock that GM couldn’t get rid of due to the new model I’m not sure but it would seem that the Roewe 750 would have been quite a good alternative.
The Roewe 750 had less sales in the month than the Roewe 350 and that was only launched at the Beijing Auto Show during the last week of the month!
