Guangzhou Auto’s first sedan to be produced in September 2010

Guangzhou Auto had a minor wow factor at the Beijing Auto Show with their self developed SUV and sedan line up. The sedan is named 传祺 (Chuan Qi) in Chinese, and is likely to be built off a Fiat platform that Guangzhou bought from Fiat prior to their joint venture deal.

In 2005 Guangzhou Auto began to talk about its plans for self developed cars, by 2007 Guangzhou Auto had set up a team to work on its own self developed cars but only via the Fiat joint venture did Guangzhou Auto’s self developed car dream get a chance to shine.

The Chuan Qi sedan is being aimed at the premium segment and will officially launch at the end of year, Guangzhou Auto are aiming for production of 250,000 vehicles further down the line. 2011 will sea the launch of the Xpower SUV that they also had on show at this years auto show. Another model that is reportedly planned is a mini compact car, and also some hybrid models, and a pure electric model.
