Roewe W5 SUV – in 1.8T and five speed manual

The Roewe SUV has been spotted out testing more times than we care to remember, the SUV is based on the Kyron from Ssangyong motors, which SAIC used to have a majority share in.

The Chinese automotive press are saying the W5 will launch at the end of the year, as SAIC have already been granted a license to produce this particular model. Interestingly, the Roewe W5 has been widened, making it (LxWxH) 4676 x1905 x 1751mm, whilst the original Kyron measured in at 4676 x 1888 x 1765. The first initial gearbox and engine appears to be the five speed manual and the 1.8T, which maybe a little underpowered in such a large machine, SAIC could roll out the 2.5 V6 KV6 engine that was used in the Roewe 750 as well as the automatic gearbox.

Pricing is still unannounced, but it is expected to be in the sub 200,000rmb range.
