Dongfeng SUV to launch in October

Lets face it, this self developed SUV from Dongfeng is far from being a looker and appears to be yet another pick up truck based SUV, and is continuing a trend that we thought was largely forgotten. Previously third and fourth tier manufacturers such as Baoding Dadi and Tianma (Editors note: are they still in business?) would take old Isuzu pick up truck designs and turn them into cheap RWD SUV’s that were popular in rural areas and townships but the price of gasoline at the pump pushed these heavy uneconomical SUV’s out of favor and the mini van became king of the countryside.

Why Dongfeng has decided to resurect this practice is not entirely clear, and it does look a bit of a sore thumb in the rest of the Dongfeng self developed line up.

Yeah right! And the H30 is such a looker! Was in Wuhan at the weekend and boy did I see a lot of them there. Mainly unsold on dealerships! No, there were also a lot on the road as well.

This is the Joyear, produced by Dongfeng’s Liuzhou subsidiary. It’s also known as the Fengxing and was introduced in 2007. It’s been classified as an MPV rather than an SUV. It saw good sales early on but the competition has intensified.

The pictures no doubt show the Joyear. Does anybody know if that car is a camouflaged Renault Scenic (1st generation), or if the similarity in door cutlines is just incidental?

Where is the Eco Motor Co. car that is supposed to be under production?
