Renault Laguna Coupe to launch in China – Coupe sighted

The Renault Laguna Coupe was on show at the Beijing Auto Show in April this year and received a strong welcome from the assembled crowds, as did the Renault Megane Sports models. It appears that Renault maybe relying on its sporting credentials to carve out a niche market for itself in the Chinese market that has so far been relatively untouched by other automakers in China.

Renault remains to be one of the last major Western auto maker to be without a joint venture in the Chinese market, the French manufacturer once had a joint venture in China to build the Traffic master MPV and also the Espace (but in very small numbers) for the Chinese market. A proposed joint venture between Dongfeng and Renault stalled this year also, leaving Renault reliant on expensive imported cars that leave them as a niche seller rather than a mass producer like its rivals at PSA. Earlier news posted to China Car Times indicated that both the Clio and the Laguna Coupe would be imported into China, however it appears that the Clio is destined for track use only.

The Renault Laguna Coupe has been spotted out in China, sparking rumors that the Coupe will soon launch:

Pricing is expected to be in the 300,000rmb and rising area for the 2.0T model, and will be up against other coupes such as the recently launched Hyundai Genesis (Rohens) coupe.
