Besturn B90 spotted out testing, possibly Mazda6 based

It’s still unclear if FAW are continuing with the Besturn name, or if the cars will fall under the more prestigious Hong Qi (Red Flag) branding, but it seems that the FAW are still working on model building with this B90 that has been spotted out testing:

The Chinese automotive media are convinced that the B90 is based on the latest generation of Mazda 6 (Mazda 6 Rui Yi in China) and follows on from FAW’s use of the last generation Mazda6 platform in the B70 and B50 series of cars.

FAW are reportedly working on a BMW style series of cars, and will thus produce a 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, 6 series, 7 series, 8 series, and 9 series of models. The B70 series is likely to be updated in coming months with the introduction of a lengthened version, and also a hybrid version.

FAW is one of the older Chinese brands, and the name is widely known in the west. If they’re working on a BMW style series of cars (RWD?), then I hope they use the Hong Qi brand. The Red Flag name would capture the imagination of many western customers. It sounds so appropriate for a prestigious Chinese vehicle. If the cars were well made, I could have fun marketing that brand.
