Lifan confirms in talks with Subaru

Lifan’s sales company CEO Mr. Liao Xiong Hui confirmed the rumors that Subaru are in talks with Lifan regarding the establishment of a new joint venture in the Chinese market.

Mr. Liao remarked “This issue has already been raised with our CEO, Lifan really wants to work with Subaru on this project, and we also have the support of the local government”

However, Mr. Liao never mentioned from which angle Lifan and Subaru plan to work on, if it is to be a true joint venture between Subaru and Lifan, or if it is to become a licensing deal that will see Lifan produce Subaru cars under license. Other rumors are saying that Subaru are planning to put the Impreza Crossover into production first should they achieve a joint venture in China.

Lifan are being placed as the outside horse in the race to win the Subaru partnership, and the big money appears to be on first tier automakers such as FAW, BAIC and SAIC.
