BAIC aiming to buy Zotye

Whilst Guangzhou Auto is slowly swallowing up its neighbours in Changfeng and GoNow, it seems that Beijing Auto Industry Corp (BAIC) is aiming to take over some of the smaller players in the Chinese market and complete the governments aims to consolidate the Chinese car industry.

BAIC purchased Bao Long Auto last week, and an executive with BAIC was quoted as saying that BAIC are actively shopping for five automakers in China which will help them cover the north, south, east and west of China. Earlier this year it was rumored that Zotye were actively in talks with BAIC regarding a merger  that would see them become part of the BAIC empire. Zotye is owned by Zotye Holdings corp, a company that is mostly producing light weight vehicles and also automotive parts, Zotye currently produces three vehicles and is planning to add two ex-Fiat models to the line up (and possibly some other ex-Fiat models) which will give it a greater range of vehicles, Zotye also have extensive plans for an electric car base which maybe the big attraction to BAIC.
