Chevoo

Chery are keen to show their green credentials are greener than any other auto maker, and they are planing to launch a new brand that will show case their new energy cars.

The new brand follows on from Chery’s mad cap scheme to launch different brands for different segment, the Riich brand became Chery’s luxury line up, whilst Reely will house the MPV and SUV line, Karry became the workhorse brand and sells cheap, economical vans and trucks for rural buyers, and the latest brand, Chevoo, will house Chery’s new energy range. The brand has not officially launched yet, but details including the logo have already leaked to the internet and have thus found their way to CCT. An official announcement from Chery is due soon.

The Chevoo name will be known as 骐诺 (Qi Nuo) in Chinese.

    Oh well, here we go again.
    Welcome to all China bashing fans !!!

    Chevoo does not sound close to the Chinese name.
    Why not Chenoo (骐诺)?
    To English speakers, Chinook sounds better.

    OMG, Chevoo????? Compared to this, Gleagle sounds positively fantastic. COME ON CHERY – how about consulting with at least ONE foreigner and asking them if the name “Chevoo” sounds good or not. I can deal with Rely and Riich – not great but livable. Chevoo? It sounds like a aborted concept from Chevrolet. Once again, Chery appears to have no real focus or aim about what it’s doing – and I am REALLY losing faith and confidence in this company. It’s sad too….at one time Chery had real momentum on it’s side and showed so much promise and potential. If Chevoo is the best that Chery’s marketing/advertising department can come up with, wow……….scary bad.

    Jesus f’n Clarkson…..what the hell is wrong with this company, they cant figure out a real name? Yes unusual names make people remember you…but not for the right reasons you dumbshi……

    Chevoo? Are they serious? Is Chery run by kids?

    I can supply Chery with a decent name for $100 (CCT discount).

    Chery’s upmarket brands Riich & Rely are run by a German lady, I am sure she knows how to create a new brand with the experience from working in VW.

    Chevoo by all means is not a good brand name. However, the Chinese name is pretty meaningful ( 骐诺 Chery’s Promise ). There is a French automaker known as Renault ( 雷諾 ), so in the same analogy I would suggest ” Chenault ” . If anyone in China can contact her, please let her have a look at CCT.

    Riich & Rely are big mistakes, I hope she was not involved in the decision making and Chevoo is just disastrous.

    You’ve got to be joking. Seems to be a rip off of Chevrolet. The badge is even a cross. What is wrong with Chery and their marketing? The name Chery is fine. From then on it’s been downhill.

  7. avatar doppelkupplungsgetriebe says:

    ‘Chevoo’ sounds like a cross between Chevrolet and Daewoo. What next?! Perhaps we could suggest some interesting combination names to Chery

    Lamborghini + Ferrari = Lambari
    Jaguar + Audi = Jagudi

    Any more suggestions?

    lol
    Calm down people, though I do adimt I would’ve came up with another name…

    @joninchina
    Do Honda Life Dunk, Daihatsu Naked, Checker Superba, Chevrolet Greenbrier, Oldsmobile Achieva, Volkswagen Tiguan (Tiger+Iguana), and Peugeot sound good?

    Weird names are everywhere, and there is no point in making such a fuss over nothing, what’s really important is the product itself, the name is just a name.

  9. avatar Chinese Netizen says:

    “Kung Fu, baozis, yue bing and Chevoo…”

    what a nice jingle. Kinda reminds me of “baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and chevrolet…”

  10. avatar joninchina says:

    @ed….

    I don’t mind weird names at all (the Daihatsu NAKED??? Actually, I love it!!), but Chevoo just seems like a BAD name with little thought from the part of Chery – just my opinion. I remember the Achieva – not a real great car, but the name originates from the word ‘achieve’ – a sensible name for a car. The word Peugeot? That is a FAMILY name – the Peugeot company actually began in 1810 as a manufacturing company (products such as coffee and bicycles) and produced their first car in 1891. Emile Peugeot applied for the famous lion logo in 1858, and of course it’s still being used today. Ford is also a family name, as is Lamborghini, Ferrari, and Honda. I would never classify a family name as ‘weird’, and in respect to other people (and their family names) I would suggest that you do not either.

    Oh dear … Chery’s marketeers really do make me laugh. I think they should rename the current Chery models (the old Toyota Corrolla etc) Cloneo and then intrroduce a new budget brand Crappo.

  12. avatar korean_guy says:

    I love Chinese communist block-head mentality: since other funny names already exists, by other companies/brands, it’s OK to have our share of dumb names. This is why China will never be a leader in innovation; they perform just enough to get by. They will be the leader in mediocrity.

    Let’s just hope the current naming trend stays in China.

  13. avatar joninchina says:

    @anthony –

    You should probably do some more research before typing something like this. The only “clone” that Chery is guilty of is the QQ3 (clone of the Chevy Spark/Daewoo Matiz) – their names might not be the smartest thing in the world but their cars aren’t clones. BYD gets the gold medal for that – F3 (copy of the old Corolla), F0 (Toyota Aygo), M6 (Toyota Previa)……..get your companies right before you type any more “crappo” like this.
