Riich G6 to get 3.0L V6 and 5 speed AT transmission
The Riich series of cars is about to get a shot in the arm thanks to Chery’s first outing of their own self developed and built 3.0L V6 engine. The 3.0L V6 will find its way into the Riich G6 alongside a 5 speed automatic gearbox, the first from Chery’s own range.
The reasoning for a 5 speed transmission instead of the more modern 6 speed is quite simple, Chery’s gearboxes were not upto the torque delivery of the V6 engine which delayed its launch, Chery redeveloped their 5 speed box to cope with the new V6 units 197bhp and 278Nm of torque.
The G6 V6 model is expected to launch later this year with a price range of around 250,000rmb.

both?
“…their own self developed and built 3.0L…
……redeveloped their 5 speed box ”
Up until now Chery relied largely on Actego for engines and Jatco for automatic transmissions. Do we understand correctly from this that Chery has now cut the umbilical and is on its own for both?
Ahh Dragin
“ACTECO” is Cherys OWN engine brand. They have been using their engines since the Chery A5 ( 1.6 ) and the Chery A1 ( 1.3 ) along with the Tiggo and the A3 .
Hi Cryptonx:
Nice to hear from you. And thank you for straightening me out. But didn’t AVL of Austria have a strong hand in Chery’s development of the Actego? In my post I had confused the names of Actego and AVL…
And I’m guessing Mitsubishi had a hand in engine development at Chery as well.
Anyway I am glad you are still there staying on top of all that’s been going on since the good old days.
@dragin
It’s ACTECO and it is their own self-developed line up of engines.
@dragin
The engine story is very long.
1 Ford outdated engine when Chery first established for Fuwin.
2 BMW/Chrysler JV engine for Cowin.
3 Mitsubishi 2.4L for Eastar.
All history, and now solely
4 Acteco engines (AVL technical support, Chery 100% owned).
Thanks fellas for the clarification of name and background.
I’m reminded of orders for Acteco engines from the U.S. and Fiat going back as far as 2006; a nice testament.
But what about automatics? Is Chery flying solo there yet?
The automatic gearbox is of CVT type. Chery hired the personnels from the failed Australian gearbox company, DSI Transmissions to develop its own line of AT. Geely on the other hand bought the whole company and set up local plant for its AT supply. As mentioned, Chery’s own AT is only good enough up to 2.0L engine and a plant is set up for mass production. More R&D is needed to cope with higher torque from 3.0L V6 engine.
