T8 sedan 300x199 Beijing brand to come in strong with big sedan models

T8 Sedan

It appears that BAIC are planning to launch their Beijing branded cars with a series of large sedans, and want to be able to follow in the footsteps of SAIC’s Roewe, who started off by developing expensive cars, and later developed cheaper cars, as SAIC learned its easier to become a luxury car maker that branches out into cheap cars rather than a cheap car maker branching out into expensive cars.

At the Beijing Auto Show in April this year we got a good look at the Beijing B40 SUV and also the B61 SUV both of which were still in the concept stage but looked awfully close to full production, the B40 is expected to launch in the next coming months, but something that BAIC is working on quietly is the T8 sedan:

The T8 sedan is based on the Chrysler Sebring platform, which came about via Beijing Auto’s partnership with Chrysler that ended with the production of the Sebring and the 300C, and has left BAIC and Chrysler as an importer of Jeep and Dodge vehicles into China.

    - Sorry, this exstremly long sentence didn’t make any meaning to me….? Especially the last part of it.

Doesn’t look bad actually at least from the front end. That’s quite an achievement for something based on a Sebring.

    Hi Volv’an:
I think this is what they meant to say:

Beijing Auto (BAIC) had a long tie-up with Chrysler which went from jeep production, to production of the Sebring and 300C in the joint venture’s final couple of years. Altough this joint production agreement is about to expire this year, Chrysler will continue to supply BAIC with imported Jeeps, and Chrysler passenger cars.

This T8 sedan is a legacy of Daimler-Chrysler era. With the acquisition of Saab’s last generation models, the Jeep/Chrysler models will be phased out gradually from local production. BAIC will focus on the newly created so-called domestic brand. BAIC’s new sedans and SUVs will be in direct competition with Jeep/Chrysler current lineups. It is very interesting to see what will happen.
