FAW-Toyota in Tianjin to recall 130,000 cars
Toyota’s recall woes cannot get any worse in 2010, now news has emerged of Toyota planning to recall a further 130,000 cars in China that were built by the Tianjin FAW-Toyota joint venture. The models affected are the high end Toyota Crown and also Toyota Reiz sedans. Toyota Crowns produced between February 21st 2005 and December 31st 2006 which total 71,840 models are being recalled, Toyota Reiz’s produced between October 18th 2005 and December 31st 2006 will recalled 62,394, bringing it to a total of 134,234 vehicles.
The recall is due to a faulty component in the rear braking system which allows water and dust to gather above the caliper and ultimately cause the caliper parts to rust, which would affect braking performance over a period of time. The recall is being monitored by the Ministry of Quality Control (full name: General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the Peoples Republic of China)
