VW Touran to only come in 1.4TSI mode

The VW Touran has been sold in China for several years and has carved out a small niche for itself as a family orientated MPV in 5 and 7 seat form, although the 5 seat form proved to be a bigger seller. The Touran is about to relaunch with an updated grill that will bring it inline with the rest of the VW line up, but it appears that the 1.8T and 2.0 engines have been abandoned in favor of just using a 1.4TSI engine.

The Touran is built by Shanghai-VW, and the 2011 model is set to launch at the Guangzhou Auto Show and will go on sale in early 2011. The Touran was never a cheap vehicle in China, but the addition of the 1.4TSI will eradicate the need for the weak 2.0L that only produced 116bhp and be pushing out around 140bhp.

Will they use the 7 speed DSG gearbox? If so that may well be a good all round wagon.
