Chang’an and Ford talking about India
Ford are trailing in China when compared to their American rival, GM. Of course, GM has its multiple brands that it can deploy and mix and match its various design centers cars into, where as Ford is largely relying on its European car line up to spur China sales. Ford’s line up so far consists of the S-Max MPV, Focus sedan and hatch, Mondeo Sedan and also Fiesta sedan and hatch, an American made Ford Edge will be introduced later this year and the Ford Kuga crossover is supposedly in the product lineup. Ford’s Chinese partner, Chang’an, are interested in working with Ford to tackle the Indian market in the same way that GM is working SAIC to take on the Sub Continent according to a report from Automotive World.
Details are still sketchy, but it appears to be a continuation of the plans that were announced earlier this year for Chang’an and Ford to jointly work on a new brand and a range of small cars to take on the low end of the market, and potentially India at the same time.

Wow !!!
@ IHC, see that? Ford is now with Chang’an. You have to ask Ford why it gave up that 100% ownership? Any plan from Hyundai to deal with the flooding of Indian auto market with Wuling & Chang’an small cars & vans? Of course, they will be under Chevrolet & Ford brand names.
@ hk
You got it confused. This is simply ChangAn asking Ford if they could distribute their vehicles via Ford dealership for some models that Ford doesn’t sell, like mini-trucks. Ford hasn’t replied what to do.
My dear Korean friend, I understand the hard feeling you got when hearing this good news to the Chinese auto industry. First it is GM partners with SAIC-Wuling, then Ford with Chang’an. You know Ford has dumped everything even the profitable Mazda, now the potential to be successful in China & India markets lies on this partnership. Don’t you think rumours are just shits, if there is not much certainty, it won’t be leaked out.
There is nowhere Korean cars can go. They have to move upwards to get the Japanese market shares and I am seeing that is what happening. However there is a glass ceiling for Korean cars, your future doesn’t look good either. I hope the world auto market will grow to such a level that everyone involved can have a piece of the big pie.
