MG3 to launch with 1.3L and AMT gearbox

The MG6 and MG Zero concept car (aka the MG3) are going to launch in the UK tomorrow at London’s Earl Court, however we can reveal some early details of the MG3.

The MG3 is expected to launch in early 2011 according to media reports and will initially come with a 1.3L engine and also the choice of an AMT gearbox and a 5 speed manual. The 1.3L engine is good for 92bhp, whilst the 1.5L is good for around 109bhp. SAIC are also working on direct injection small displacement engines, ranging from 1.0L to 1.5L, which will considerably improve power and reduce emissions, engineers in SAIC’s engineering center are playing a pivotal part in the project and is considered a joint project between SAIC and GM, the project will also see SAIC working on dual clutch gearboxes
