Next generation 750?

Now that the MG3 is practically finished and being pushed out of the factory, the next generation of Roewe 750 is expected to go into development and renders of it have already been leaked to the internet. As well as the Roewe 750 the MG5 is also going to be put into development, the MG5 will be a hatchback model based on the Roewe 350 platform and is expected to be similar in style to the MG6. The new 750 is going to be based on the Buick Regal platform, which of course is the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia platform in the UK and Europe and also the US. The new 750 shown in the renders above seems to be a radical break away from the current Roewe 750 in terms of styling, and leaves behind the traditional English ‘Cuban cigar‘ style of sedan and seems to be more in line with the Buick Regal with it keeping many sharp edges and angled rear. A design rendering of the 750 was posted to CCT before, although it did not give as much detail as the below models.

Information as to what range of engines the 750 will get are unavailable, although it could be that SAIC plan to use the Buick Regal’s engine line up which consists of naturally aspirated 2.0L and 2.4L engines and also a 2.0T, and not forgetting the 240bhp 2.0 direct injection engine. As the Nanjing R&D center is busy with the NSE (New Small Engine) project, it is likely that SAIC will make full use of GM’s Ecotec engine range in the next generation of Roewe 750 whilst the Kavachi engines are likely to stay in production to satisfy SAIC’s engine buyers such as Dongfeng and Hawtai.

Next generation Roewe 750 built off Buick Regal? What ever happened to SAIC’s indigenous engineering? Is SAIC still unable to come up with its own platform?

More important question is, is GM really licensing Epsilon II platform, which they refused to license out while selling Saab? Epsilon II is too new to be licensed out; a pre-Epsilon platform might be ok, but not Epsilon II.

Nice ps. With recent agreements on forming joint ventures for emerging markets, co-developing and sharing platform/engines/gearbox, I think SAIC and GM are heading Renault-Nissan type alliance now.

This new model is designed by PATAC, well, of course built on the Buick Regal platform as the article said, but you know what? Buick Regal is also designed by PATAC, whose half stake is held by SAIC

Sales in China have become the main focus of GM. As GM’s partner in that operation, SAIC now has unprecedented access to GM technology that no other former GM partner ever had. This includes engines and platforms. There are also reports of an arrangement in which GM will help distribute MG brand vehicles in some markets. SAIC has become a GM “insider” because GM needs this relationship to sustain it’s post-bankruptcy growth. It’s market share in the US is down to 19%, and it’s European operations have lost money this year. It is up to SAIC to make the best use of these resources. They have a unique opportunity here if they can take advantage of it.

No.SAIC and GM are only close cooperate relation, not alliance.Because China auto market is too large, which resusatated GM depend on.As the exchange,GM get the more stock droit of Wuling.

I’m afraid that GM can’t help MG because which isn’t related with GM except it want to develop a competitor.

This arrangement is in regard to the Chevrolet brand dealers in Europe, including Russia. It has been discussed that these Chevrolet dealers would have the option of selling the MG brand in certain countries, as a way to expand the MG dealer network quickly. This would be a reward for certain financial considerations provided to GM through SAIC. Their relationship is becoming very complicated. It’s not just about the cars.
