The C30 has been spotted out testing in China several times and we will see it coming down the production line on December 28th this month.

The BC30 was self developed by BAIC and measures in at (LxWxH) 4038mm x 1720 x 1500 and has a wheelbase of 2500mm, the C30 is being heavily compared to the Mercedes B200 which is imported into China instead of being built via the Daimler-Beijing Auto joint venture.

On the power front, the BC30 will be using Mitsubishi’s 1.3L and 1.5L 4A9 series of engines which are much improved on the first generation of engines. The 1.3L is good for 99bhp and 126Nm of torque whilst the 1.5L will have 113bhp at 141Nm of torque. In all likelihood we will see this next week at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

Heavily compared to the B Class Merc you say. I would never have guessed had you not posted a picture of a B Class Merc instead of the C30 for the story. Wait, you mean …. that is the C30?? Xerox are back doing business in China again! Hurrah.

    Will Daimler sue?

    • avatar CCT says:

Daimler didnt sue when BAIC introduced its own Cherokee, I doubt that they will sue this time.

Also: your name is still repugnant.

      • avatar Esprit de Flandre says:

The Cherokee was licensed to BAIC via the Jeep JV. This is probably also a real MB B-class, with a facelift, and with permission from Daimler. So not a copy, just business.

what a RIPOFF. The Chinese are a shameless bunch. It’s a scary world.

  4. avatar Marko says:

i agree is a ripoff, but only if you look for short moment.
Benz B is nice car, with good ergonomics and some nice mechanics.
BAIC will be build with 1,3/1,5 L Mitsubishi engines!!
Seems to me that every Chinese car company is using this licenced or copied Mitsubishi engines.
    No need to comment anymore!
    Cheers

“only if you look for a short moment” … ??!!??

I wasn’t talking about the engines (those may be ripoffs in themselves, or licensed, I don’t care in this context. I was talking about the COPY they ILLEGALLY did of another manufacturer’s design. That’s how MOST chinese car companies operate. They XEROX other cars. And usually fail at car crash tests. SHAME ON CHINA for STEALING intellectual property and their “government” for supporting them.

I thought, the times of those obvious ripoffs are over :(

Head to the official site and BAIC even admits to apeing the B-Klasse:

These guys need to get products to market fast. I agree that rip off motor styling is silly if done by non-affiliated entities eg dreadful Liefan Mini.

But BAIC are serious players with JV’s with Mercedes as well as Hyundai.

Both the A and B class are being replaced. So why not use some of the old tooling and reposition under the BAIC name. Understand vehicle will retail for RM70k.

    Quite a clever proposition, no?
